How quiet is bedroom air conditioning?

Noise matters more in a bedroom than almost anywhere else because small sounds become much more noticeable at night. Equipment choice, installation and how the system is used all influence the final result.

Indoor-unit noise

Fan speed and equipment design affect the sound produced indoors. A correctly sized system should be selected with night-time use in mind rather than relying on maximum fan speed to pull the room temperature down quickly.

Position matters

Where the unit sits relative to the bed affects both sound and airflow. The aim is to circulate conditioned air through the room without creating an uncomfortable draught directly across the sleeping area.

Do not forget the outdoor unit

Outdoor-unit position also matters, particularly near bedroom windows or neighbouring properties. Access, clearances, vibration isolation and the surrounding environment all deserve consideration.
