What is the best air conditioner for a static caravan?

The best air conditioner for a static caravan depends on what the holiday park allows, how much permanent alteration you want, the electrical supply and whether you want occasional summer cooling or a more permanent year-round system.

Portable air conditioning is often the simplest starting point

A quality portable air conditioner keeps the refrigeration system inside the caravan and does not need a conventional outdoor condenser. That can make it a practical choice on parks where external equipment is restricted.

The trade-off is that the compressor is inside the room and the hot exhaust air still needs a good route outside. Floor space, noise and the exhaust arrangement matter as much as the headline cooling capacity.

A dedicated exhaust outlet can make a portable system much neater

Where the park permits a small permanent alteration, the exhaust hose can sometimes run through a dedicated outlet in the caravan wall. Keeping the hose short and directly behind the unit can give a far tidier result than hanging it through an open window.

Any wall opening should be agreed with the park before work starts, and the caravan construction and external weatherproof finish need to be considered properly.

A fixed split system is the more permanent option

If an outdoor condenser is permitted, a small split system can provide quieter indoor operation because the compressor sits outside. Many fixed systems also offer heating as well as cooling.

This route needs more planning around outdoor-unit position, pipework, condensate drainage, electrical supply, service access and the park's rules on exterior alterations.

Do not choose from BTU or kW alone

Static caravans can have large windows, lightweight walls and strong solar gain. Two caravans with the same floor area can therefore behave very differently in hot weather.

Room dimensions are useful, but orientation, glazing, shade, open-plan layout and how the caravan is occupied all affect the cooling load.

The best option is the one the park and caravan can support

If permanent alterations are restricted, a well-selected portable unit with a properly planned exhaust route can be the sensible answer. If the park accepts an outdoor unit and you want a quieter, more permanent solution, a fixed split is worth considering.

Goldridge Aircon can help owners across Yorkshire and the North East work through those choices before equipment is ordered.
