A freestanding portable unit may need no permanent alteration
If a portable air conditioner uses a temporary window arrangement and nothing is fixed through the caravan wall or exterior, the work may be much simpler from the park's point of view.
You should still check any site rules covering electrical appliances, window fittings or visible equipment if you are unsure.
A permanent exhaust outlet changes the caravan exterior
A neat through-wall exhaust can be an excellent way to improve a portable setup, but it involves making an opening in the caravan wall. That is exactly the sort of alteration that should be agreed with the park first.
Ask whether a wall outlet is allowed, whether its position or external appearance is restricted and whether the park wants to approve the installer or method.
A fixed split system usually needs a clearer approval
A split system adds an outdoor condenser plus pipework and drainage between the indoor and outdoor units. The park may have rules about where the condenser can sit, how visible it is and how close it can be to neighbouring pitches.
Do not order a fixed system until you know the park is comfortable with the proposed arrangement.
Get the permission in writing where possible
A quick conversation at reception is useful, but if the work involves a permanent alteration it is sensible to have a written record of what has been approved.
A short email showing the proposed type of system and location can prevent confusion later.
Park operators can make this much easier for owners
If the same question comes up repeatedly, a park can create an approved route covering acceptable equipment, exhaust arrangements, outdoor-unit positions and electrical checks.
Goldridge Aircon can work with holiday parks across Yorkshire and the North East to create a repeatable owner referral and installation process.
